HPL was first invented by two young Americans in 1913. During an inspection of laboratory products, they unexpectedly discovered that this material made of kraft paper, phenolic resin, and melamine resin had incredible fire resistance and high temperature resistance. They continued to improve the process and applied for a patent for the resin formula. From then on, hpl was promoted to the market as a substitute for mica sheets and entered thousands of households.
